Introduction to Conversation Design Institute
Conversation Design Institute (CDI) leads the way in developing methods, skillsets, and standards for scaling great conversational experiences. With offices in Austin (USA) and Amsterdam (NL), CDI helps enterprises build high-quality chatbots and voice applications at scale.
As conversations between enterprises and people are increasingly powered by artificial intelligence, it’s our mission to make sure that these conversations are human-centered, inclusive, ethical, and goal-oriented.
On the one hand, CDI is teaching thousands of people worldwide how to create better AI Assistants. On the other hand, CDI has a growing team of experts who work with organisations to develop better AI Assistants – and the capabilities they need to support and scale them.
CDI started with two basic ideas.
If machines and people will be engaging in regular conversations, then the human brain should be just as important as the artificial brain. That meant that we should take ideas from behavioral psychology and linguistics to make AI Assistants perform better, instead of simply adding more engineering power to a conversational project. This idea became the CDI Method.
And if organizations will increasingly use AI to talk to people, then that is something they should not think lightly about. They would need a true capability to do this properly. Eventually, they. should be able to do this themselves and start developing in-house conversational AI teams. This idea ultimately became the CDI Standards Framework.
These ideas were quickly validated by some of the world’s largest conversational AI operations. Within 12 months CDI was proudly working with multiple Fortune 500 companies, was delivering in-person workshops around the world, and had more than 1000 students in its online academy.
As the company grew, more experienced consultants joined the company. A group of Ex-Googlers joined the company to support clients and further develop the growing library of courses.
In just a few years, organizations like Microsoft, Salesforce, Verint, Rasa, Cognigy, Quiq, and many others supported CDI by joining the CDI Foundation. This non-profit organization contributes to research, develops industry standards, awards inclusivity scholarships, and organizes Conversation Design Festival and the Beyond Boundaries Global Festival.
In 2021, CDI opened its US office in Austin Texas to better service its North American clients.
The CDI Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and promoting design standards for conversational AI Assistants that interface with people via chatbots, voice applications, and in the metaverse. It does this through research, education and industry development.
